Travelers heading south along U.S. Route 23 into Worthington will have a new set of landmarks to greet them when they reach Wilson Bridge Road.
The long-awaited Worthington Gateway project, which is being developed on the former Holiday Inn site at the southwest corner of North High Street and West Wilson Bridge Road, should finally be open for business in 2023.
The new mixed-use complex will consist of six buildings on seven acres. Four will line West Wilson Bridge Road west of the BP station. Another structure will front North High Street at the intersection with Caren Avenue.
The last structure will sit within the bounds of the site. The perimeter buildings are in various stages of completion, with the four structures on the Wilson Bridge Road side much further along than the High Street building.
The sixth and final building is not yet under construction. That will be changing in what should be a matter of days, according to Matt Gregory, senior vice president for NAI Ohio Equities.
Foundation work has been progressing quickly, with concrete poured in late November. Gregory expects the building to start going up soon, he said.
“We anticipate steel arriving on site the first week of December,” Gregory said.
“We will start going vertical on the steel and elevator shaft in December. We will essentially be putting up the steel through the winter and then really pick up speed come spring and summer.”
Gregory is handling leasing for the office space within the 78,000-square-foot portfolio. While he expects the property to be completely booked out by the time it opens, he was not able to divulge any information on the details of any prospective tenants.
“We are in the same place we were a couple months ago,” Gregory said.
“We have three office tenants that are on the verge of signing leases.”
Dan Clark, vice president and manager of the Columbus office of Goodman Real Estate Services Group LLC, is managing the restaurant and retail space leasing.
That roster currently consists of franchise entrants from Five Guys, Tropical Smoothie Café, Orange Theory Fitness, Club Pilates and The Now, a Los-Angeles-based massage chain that recently opened its first Ohio location in Dublin.
The Five Guys would be located in the storefront closest to the corner of High and Caren, while the others listed so far are slated to set up shop along West Wilson Bridge Road, according to a brochure on Goodman’s web site.
The Goodman Real Estate Services Group web site is currently touting a completion date of the first quarter of 2023 for prospective retail clients.
Completion of the final building, which consists of office space only, will extend the construction period into next summer.
